On Mission to Kenya

Dear Friends,

The countdown has started to a very exciting ministry opportunity that I have been called to. On April 7, 2015 I will be leaving Seattle with a team of four others to participate in a short term mission project in Kodera, Kenya. I want to share some history and goals of our time in Kenya as well as invite you to join my team.

Pine Lake Covenant Church has been in a relationship with Kodera for many years. It is an amazing story that started here in Sammamish, Washington and has touched so many lives in Africa. We have partnered with the community to help protect their natural water sources; teach basic hygiene; construct a clinic; put up a playground; and in 2006 Pine Lake Academy was opened. Today, Pine Lake Academy (PLA) has over 400 students and the village of Kodera is healthy and growing.

I have been on staff at Pine Lake Covenant Church for a year and the involvement with PLA was a huge factor that drew me to the church. I loved that the church was answering the call of what needs to be done. They didn’t shy away from advancing the Gospel while helping a small village on the other side of the world. I am humbled and excited that God has called me to participate in advancing His Kingdom at PLA.

Our short term team will be on the ground in Kodera from April 9-16, 2015, with about 40 hours of travel on both sides of those dates. We will be working with the teachers to provide an in-service training. I will specifically be working with the teachers to share The Big God Story, including how to respond in worship. It is going to be an amazing time to inspire, equip and support the teachers and watch what God will do in this community, with these teachers, students and families.

I would love to have you join my team by becoming a partner with me. What I need the most is your prayers. This is a big project and I will be away from my own kids for almost two weeks. I would love your prayers to cover me as I prepare over the next several weeks, during our travel time, for my children while I’m gone, and for our time on the ground in Kenya. I will also have a facebook group for our team where I will have daily prayer requests.

If you’re able, another way you can support me is through a tax-deductible donation. This trip is $2050.00, which covers airfare, room and board, security in Kodera, my visa, and in country transportation. I will be paying for some of these expenses myself, as well as special items to take to the children and teachers. I need to raise these funds by March 30, 2015. Your financial gift towards this trip would be a blessing.

There are two ways for your contribution to be tax-deductible. You can mail a check directly to Pine Lake Covenant Church, 1715 228th Ave SE, Sammamish, WA 98075. Please add “Kenya 2015” to the memo line and include a separate note with my name. The other way you can contribute is through my GoFundMe page found here: http://www.gofundme.com/nancytokenya. All funds will go directly to the Church. Whatever comes in over and above my needs will be used to enhance the ministries planned in Kenya.

When I return from our trip I would love to share some stories and pictures of the people we worked with as well as highlights of the teacher in-service. Thank you for considering joining my team to help reach people for Christ in Kenya. I am blessed by your friendship.

Many blessings to you,

Nancy

  2. Hi Nancy, We are thrilled you get to go to Kodera and that we can support you. I just made a payment thru bill pay to PLCC with “Kenya 2015-Nancy Thompson” in the memo line for $500. 🙂 They should have the payment by March 20th. Please let me know if there are any problems. Maria
